Environmental and Recycling
Mark LaRose started practicing environmental law for the Illinois Attorney General’s Office in 1983. In 1986, he joined a private practice firm where Mary Karson was assigned as his legal assistant. That is the day that Mark will always remember and always cherish. From 1986 to 1991, he was also Vice President and General Counsel to two scrap metal recycling businesses -- Fritz Enterprises and Eumet of America. Since that time, Mark and Mary have represented large, small, and family-owned scrap metal recycling and solid waste companies in just about all aspects of their businesses. Mark has helped these companies buy and sell landfills, transfer stations, scrap yards, and related real estate and equipment. Mark also has the resources to use an excellent team of environmental consultants and engineers to perform Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments, to work with the various government agencies to clean up contaminated property, and to consult on all aspects of environmental compliance regarding air, land, and water. If the matter results in litigation, Mark defends these companies against the various environmental protection agencies – local, state, and federal. Mark and Mary also assist in the permitting of all of these types of operations. Mark has contacts with various landfills and transfer stations that assist with the solid and special waste needs of his clients. He also represents PRPs in federal Superfund cases (CERCLA).
